Heavy Snow & Rain in Australian Ski Resorts

20cm has fallen in some resorts with resorts in New South Wales seeing the best of it. However the latest storm is expected to bring heavy rain and some resorts have closed their lifts. UPDATED

Updated,  Saturday 6th August:

Another huge storm is hitting the ski areas but it has brought rain as well as some snow.

Up to 20cm of rain was forecast, with winds gusting to 90kph.

The resort of Thredbo closed on Thursday as the storm hit.

“Some areas will remain closed to skiing and riding until we can safely run lifts again,” said the resort ahead of the storm.

“The safety of our team and guests is paramount.

“Given the extreme weather forecast for heavy rain and gale-force winds, we have made the decision to not operate any lifts today, 4th August 2022,” it added on Thursday.

Nearbouring Perisher is shutting some lifts, but others remain open.

Severe weather warnings in place for many parts of the state of New South Wales.

It is feared the rain will do damage to the snowpack.

Perisher Ski Resort received more than 20cms of fresh snow on August 1st.

“That’s right we got hit with a snowstorm last night, bringing in 20cm of fresh pow. Our mountain is looking fluffier than ever and frosty white,” Perisher said on its website.

Thredbo also saw fresh snow, accompanied by high winds.

In the state of Victoria there has been  blue sky.
