New Lift for Jackson Hole

The Thunder lift is being replaced with a faster detachable quad lift.

The original Thunder lift was installed in the Wyoming resort in 1994.

The speed of the new lift will be 1,000 feet per minute, which is twice the speed of the original Thunder.

It will cut journey time from just over 7 minutes to 3.6 minutes.

It will use the name Thunder and continue to access 1,454 vertical feet of terrain at JHMR.

“The Thunder lift has been the most popular lift on the upper mountain, and it delivers access to some of the legendary terrain JHMR is known for,” said the resort president, Mary Kate Buckley.

“The new Thunder lift will dramatically cut down on skiers’ and snowboarders’ time spent waiting in line and on the lift.

“This substantial investment is being made to improve lift waiting times and give our guests more time on snow.”

PlanetSKI is planning to visit Jackson Hole in the second half of next season as part of a cross-border road trip in the USA and Canada that we are planning.

We were last in Jackson Hole in 2017.

Full testing of the new Thunder lift is set to start in October ahead of the resort opening for the 2022/23 season.

Ahead of the season The Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club’s (JHSC) annual Ski & Gear Swap is set to take place on October 15^th.

It a community event aimed at keeping gear in use.

People can sell unwanted ski and snowboard gear and purchase new kit.

The proceeds go to local student-athletes in competitive alpine and Nordic skiing, freeride skiing and snowboarding, and backcountry education.
