Serre Chevalier makes moves to go carbon neutral
Ski areas around the world are working towards carbon neutrality.
Serre Chevalier is doing its bit to make skiing more sustainable, as they aim to have 30% renewable electric power by next year.
Earlier this year, the resort’s first hydro-electric turbine was installed, with production starting in the spring of 2022 and a second turbine will begin working in the spring of next year.
As an eco-conscious ski area, Serre Chevalier has created a local organisation designed to promote the transition to carbon neutrality across the resort community to generate ideas and help support multiple projects at all levels.
In Serre Chevalier their group is called ‘Tous Engagés’ and brings together employees, resort guests and partners to help achieve the goal of achieving carbon neutral status.
Additionally, in a bid to improve energy efficiency on the slopes, there is the movement to adapt the speed of ski lifts to cut energy use and new, lower-energy lifts are under construction in the area.
