UK Snowsport Recognises ‘Coaches of the Year’

There are those that coach the elite athletes in World Cup racing and those that operate at the grass roots level. Congratulations to the winners & all those nominated.

It is no suprise to see Tristan Glasse-Davies  from GB Snowsport on the list.

He is High Performance Coach of the Year.

He coached Dave Ryding to GB’s first ever top spot in an alpine World Cup ski event when Dave won the slalom in Kitzbuhel last season.

“Tristan has coached Dave for 12 years. Dave was around 150 in the World when Tristan started coaching him back in 2010. Dave went on to win the Europa cup standings in 2013, the first Brit to do this, and has slowly moved up the World rankings. Dave is now considered one of the best slalom skiers in the World.”

Then there’s Kirsty Crawford from the Bearsden Ski Club – she is Children’s Coach of the Year and Overall Coach of the Year.

“It would be easy to list all the ways that Kirsty engages the children she coaches in becoming better skiers, but she does much more than that for the club. Kirsty has helped develop a culture that empowers the youngsters to be better. This is carried over from skiing into their everyday life. She gets to know the children, what motivates them, why they are here and ensures that every session has a part of this in it.

Parasnowsport Coach of the Year is Keith Wood from Disability Snowsport UK, DSUK.

“Keith embarked on a year of volunteering in adaptive skiing provisions around the UK. Adaptive snowboarding wasn’t really on anyone’s radar at that time, so Keith set about his mission to raise the profile and engage with even more disabled people to participate in this life changing area.

Recreational Coach of the Year is from the Yorkshire Dales Cross Country Club.

Step forward Martin Appleby.

“Special mention must be made about Martin Appleby who has continued to coach all members and introduced so many newcomers to cross country skiing and roller skiing for over thirty years. He believes passionately that our club should welcome everyone and that there should be plenty of activity both skiing and socially to make people feel they belong to the club.”
