Scotland’s Only Indoor Ski Slope Closes

Snow Factor at XSite Braehead, in Renfrewshire, will be shut until further notice following a court order.

The snowsport centre appointed administrators last year and began liquidation proceedings earlier this month.

XSite says its other shops, restaurants and attractions remain open.

“Following ongoing legal proceedings and a subsequent court order, Snow Factor at XSite Braehead will be closed from today until further notice,” it said in a statement.

“It’s a great shame that it has shut and let’s hope there is some way it can be saved,” said the former Olympic skier Graham Bell to BBC Radio Scotland.

“If it could remain open it would help a lot of young skiers coming up and help with the development process of winter sports in Scotland.”

The area’s local MP, Gavin Newlands has also reacted to the news

“I was disappointed to hear about the closing of Snow Factor at the XSITE facility at Braehead in my constituency, formerly Soar and Xscape,” said Gavin Newlands.

“The ski slope at XSITE is an asset for not only the people of Renfrewshire but the wider winter sport community in the West of Scotland.

“The closure of the ski slope will have a detrimental impact on the snow sport industry across Scotland, not to mention the knock-on effect to employees working at the Snow Factor in addition to other businesses in XSITE and in the wider winter sport industry.

“It is my understanding that Snow Factor is hoping to continue to remain at XSITE and are engaging with the new management company to secure their lease initially on a temporary basis to allow them to continue to trade with the hope of brokering a more permanent lease in the near future.”

Companies House records show Snow Factor Ltd appointed administrators on 4th November, 2021.

The company appointed a voluntary liquidator on 7th November, 2022.
