As Jackson Hole Opens PlanetSKI Looks at its Season Ahead

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has opened with the early season snow conditions the best in many years. What makes the resort so iconic? UPDATED

“This fall JHMR has seen the perfect combination of early-season snowfall, consistently cold temperatures and continuous snowmaking efforts, which have created great coverage across the resort,” said the resort.

A wide variety of terrain, all located on the north side of the resort, are open.

Five lifts are running:

Teewinot
Après Vous
Sweetwater
Casper
Teton

None of the expert terrain is open as there is not enough snow, with the terrain open accessible for beginners and intermediates.

Early-season conditions still exist, and people are warned to stay out of closed areas and look out for hazards.

More than 2m of snow has fallen so far this autumn.

So, back to the question we raised earlier – what makes Jackson Hole such an iconic resort?

But what about the present?

Perhaps the biggest development for the coming season is the replacement of the Thunder chairlift.

“The next era of our favourite chair on the mountain is here,” said the resort.

Thunder Chair has carried skiers and riders up the slopes since 1970 to access over 1,450 vertical feet of prime terrain.

Thunder Bumps, Tower 3 and Grand to name a few.

After decades of historic service, it’s time to usher in the next era for Thunder.

“The new detachable lift will cut ride time in half to 3.5 minutes, which means less lift line and more on-snow time,” said the resort.

It’s hoped new terrain will open for the weekend of December 3rd – 4th.

“We’re excited to open up for skiers and riders on November 25th after a tremendous past few weeks of snowfall and cold temperatures,” said JHMR President, Mary Kate Buckley.

“This is some of the best early-season snow we’ve seen in the last decade.

It’s been the perfect combination of snow and snow-making since late October, which leads to great coverage on our world-class terrain.”

The Aerial Tram will run for sightseeing and waffles service at Corbet’s Cabin from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, November 26th and Sunday November 27th. No ski equipment is allowed.
RPK3, the Resort’s popular slopeside kitchen and bar under the Aerial Tram, will open this Friday and has expanded its hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate guests with their après-ski small bites, specialty drinks and more.

The resort will once again limit the sale of day tickets and manage capacity for a third consecutive year in 2022-23.

It encourages people to purchase day tickets in advance and make reservations as required for its multi-resort pass products.

Ikon Pass and Mountain Collective pass holders are required to make reservations for lift access.
