A major fire broke out on Sunday evening at the Hotel Le Souleil’Or in Les 2 Alpes, France. There were no injuries but the building has been gutted. PlanetSKI reports from the resort. UPDATED

Here is what’s left of the hotel after the blaze was put out:
The blaze ripped through the hotel shortly after dusk on Sunday at around 6.00pm.
50 guests were evacuated from the building and were found alternative accommodation.
None is reported to be injured.
PlanetSKI reporter Max Cove had just arrived in Les2Alpes and was one of the first to spot the blaze from his apartment overlooking the area and called the emergency services.
“The firebrigade was on the scene shortly after my call, but the blaze spread very quickly once the fire took hold and the smoke drifted hundreds of meters into the air,” said Max.
“The emergency services were unable to stop the hotel being destroyed, though they did manage to contain the fire and stop it spreading to adjacent properties,” added Max.
“An acrid smell of smoke hangs over the resort with many people upset and shocked by the tragedy.”
The areas around Rue du Grand Plan was sealed off as more than 40 firefighters tackled the blaze.
The Hotel Le Souleil’Or was a 3* hotel situated in the centre of the resort, and 50m from the slopes.
It was an offering from the UK’s largest ski tour operator, Crystal Ski Holidays.
Those people booked this winter will be offered alternative accommodation.
At 10.30pm on Sunday night the blaze was still burning with firefighters monitoring the situation, though by midnight the fire had subsided but was still smouldering.
By Monday morning the blaze was out but the building a smouldering ruin.
Les2Alpes is hosting the Rise Festival this week and organisers cancelled an event at the nearby Rise Arena on Sunday.
The Rise Festival is a week long party, both on and off the mountain, that is spread across multiple stages and venues throughout the resort.
It is the reason PlanetSKI reporter, Max Cove, is in the resort.
As well as live music & DJ sets on the main headline stage, there is also a huge indoor arena that hosts the Bongo Bingo sessions.
The sessions were cancelled on Sunday due to the fire.
An investigation into the blaze is now underway.
Here at PlanetSKI we will be updating this article as we receive more information.
