More Resorts in USA Extend Ski Season

Resorts in California have extended their season after record-breaking snowfall, with some saying they will continue into summer. Once the season ends in Europe PlanetSKI is heading out to the USA. Look out for our reports in mid-May. UPDATED

With record-breaking snowfall in the area so far this season its set to be some of best spring skiing and riding the eastern Sierra has ever seen.

Mammoth Mountain often open into the summer but this is the first time the resort has confirmed a season extension so early.

Big Bear also carries on as does Palisades Tahoe.

PlanetSKI’s editor, James Cove, will be visiting California in mid-May after the European ski season ends.

He’ll be taking in Palisades Tahoe, Mammoth and hopefully some others.

The snow is continuing to fall.

Mammoth Mountain has received 16.1m of snow this season and the resort is predicted to reach its season snowfall record of 16.96m shortly.

Currently the snow is 7.7m deep at the summit of the mountain and 6.4m at Main Lodge.

The resort has announced all winter operations will continue to run until at least July and could extend further with no official closing date confirmed.

Big Bear in California has also announced that skiing and snowboarding will continue.

We have already reported on PlanetSKI of resorts in the USA extending their season.

The resort of Park City in Utah has just broken its record for snow:

Mammoth Mountain is on the Ikon Pass that has recently gone on sale for the season of 2023/24.

“This is great news for any skiers and snowboarders in the area and for those who are planning to visit as this is likely to be the best spring skiing and riding the eastern Sierra has ever seen,” said a statement from Mammoth Mountain.

Winter operations continuing also means that visitors to the resort can continue to take advantage of cross-country and Nordic skiing, snowshoe trails, snowmobiling, snowcat tours, sledding and tubing.

Resorts across California have seen huge amounts of snow this season, as we have reported on PlanetSKI:

With more snow expected in the coming weeks it is set to be a season to remember at Mammoth Mountain.
