Snow Conditions in Australia and New Zealand

Australia has seen a good winter so far. Sadly it is a different story in the ski areas of New Zealand, but snow is in the forecast.

It has hardly been a stella start to the season in New Zealand, though the snow cannons have helped.

Mt Hutt has only received 37cm of natural snowfall since the season started over a month ago.

It admits it has relied on man-made snow and grooming.

“It’s been a lean start to the season in terms of natural snowfall at Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt,” said the NZ Ski CEO, Paul Anderson to local media.

“However, our ongoing investment in the latest snowmaking and grooming technology enabled us to get all three resorts operating on time and ready for the July school holidays.”

There is some hope.

In Australia the season has got off to a good start.

Thredbo reports a good July holiday period.

It’s been good in neighbouring Perisher in New South Wales where the resort has been hosting winter events.

Here at PlanetSKI we are keeping an eye on conditions Down Under and we will be updating this report.
