Melting Glacier Above Zermatt Reveals Body of Another Missing Person

The person has been identified as a 63-year old Italian ski tourer who went missing in March 2019. NEW

The discovery was made by hikers in the Klein Matterhorn area.

As well as a body there was ski touring equipment.

The body has been recovered and formal identification has taken place.

The 63-year old went missing on  March 28th 2019 and despite an extensive search at the time he was not found.

It is the latest discovery as the glaciers melt in the summer temperatures.

The public prosecutor has opened a joint investigation with the local police into the latest discovery.

The Valais cantonal police have a list of more than 300 missing people that dates back to 1925.

It is predicted more bodies and objects will be discovered in the coming years as the glaciers melt due to climate change.
