Three Injured in Chairlift Accident in Australian Resort of Thredbo

Three snowboarders were injured after a chair fell from the Kosciuszko lift at Thredbo. An unusually strong gust of wind is thought to be to blame. UPDATED

Two women in their 20s suffered back injuries while a man in his 20s suffered injuries to his face.

The women were treated at Canberra Hospital, while the man was taken to Cooma Health Service.

The accident happened as the chair approached the top of the lift and it was just short of the lift station.

Winds had been gusting to 65 kms per hour.

The resort released a statement saying none of the injuries was serious.

The incident is being investigated by Safework NSW and an independent engineer.

The lift has now re-opened.

At 2kms long, the Kosciuszko chair is the longest chairlift  in Australia.

It was installed in 1990.

The New South Ales ski areas have seen a return to winter with fresh storms bringing some much-needed snow.
