£3.1m Investment for Maison Sport

The online platform that connects skiers and snowboarders to professional instructors, has announced the successful completion of a £3.1 million investment round.

Maison Sport claims  the investment will “power European growth and enhance customer experience”.

The 2023 funding was secured through a private investment firm and angel investors as Maison Sport changes the way ski instructors and ski schools operate.

It is an on-line booking platform where people can pick their instructor and leave reviews and comments.

Maison Sport is currently present in over 400 resorts with over 1,300 qualified instructors across France, Switzerland, Italy and Austria.

This infusion of capital will help expanding Maison Sport’s reach, “enhancing its platform’s tech capabilities, and solidifying its position as the go-to platform for ski instructors to sign up, and winter sports enthusiasts to book through”.

The funding lands at a time when experiences are becoming more and more of a focal point within people’s holidays.

Tripadvisor has released preview for its upcoming 2024 study on the Experience of Travel, showing that 67% of travelers surveyed across 7 key markets placed more value on ‘experiences’ rather than ‘things’.

Previous investment rounds for the global platform changing the ski lesson industry have attracted  investors, including of Gareth Williams, Co-Founder of Skyscanner and Kevin Byrne, the visionary Founder and owner of Checkatrade.

Commenting on the successful investment round, Co-Founder and CEO Nick Robinson, expressed gratitude for the support from both new and existing investors:

“Our goal is to become the largest seller of snow sports activities worldwide within the next five years and this investment not only validates Maison Sport’s mission to make snow sports accessible to everyone but also empowers us to scale our operations and bring more value to our end users, both the instructors and the holidaymakers.”

Nick co-founded Maison Sport with his brother, Olly, and Aaron Tipping.

About Maison Sport

Maison Sport was created by a team of industry professionals with over 25 years of ski teaching experience. All ex-British ski team members & fully qualified ski instructors, the founding team at Maison Sport have successfully worked together over the past 8 years.

The vision for Maison Sport was conceived after the trio acquired a traditional ski school in France, where revenue has since increased around 10 times.

Witnessing an antiquated way of booking lessons, they spotted an opportunity to solve a problem for customers and ski instructors, by using a technology platform to connect the two parties together directly.

Maison Sport offers reduced costs to the customer of as much as 50% and provides a more ethical and profitable practice for the instructors, who keep up 93% of the cost of the lessons.

Much like many successful marketplaces, one of Maison Sport’s key selling points is its unique instructor reviews, only left by past customers, which enable new customers to make informed decisions about their ski or snowboard lessons.

Currently, the Maison Sport marketplace includes more than 400 resorts and over 1,300 trusted, qualified instructors across France, Switzerland, Italy and Austria.

In France, Maison Sport’s instructor pool is second only to the Ecole de Ski Francais, a company that was founded in 1937.
