North America Snow Report
10th December 2023
Last modified on December 13th, 2023
It has been a slow start to winter in the USA and Canada so far. PlanetSKI is in Canada and reports on conditions across the Pond. UPDATED
In the USA it has been snowing in the past few days across many Colorado resorts.
It is good news for resorts such as Breckenridge (upper base depth 70cm), which also saw significant snow fall the previous weekend.
In California, Mammoth (50cm upper base) also saw a few centimetres of snow.
It’s looking decent in Jackson Hole in Wyoming, USA.
Overall US resort snow depths are generally below where they should be for the time of year.
Many Canadian resorts are partially open though snow conditions remain modest for now, with upper base depths of 77cm in Whistler and 72cm in the Banff/Lake Louise area.
Both resorts have had some light snowfalls over the past couple of days.
PlanetSKI’s Katy Dartford is currently in Whistler in Canada where there has been some snow in the past few days.
Now the weather has cleared.
Here’s Katy’s summary of current conditions:
And here’s a spot of that skiing Katy was talking about on wide open, and deserted pistes above the clouds:
Here’s an earlier video report from Katy:
“Had a nice dusting of snow from about 11am and for most of the day,” said Katy on Saturday.
“Much needed as it’s been a bit of a ‘soft start’ to the season so far in Whistler with a nice soft later on top of the base.”
It certainly made Whistler pretty as night fell.
Out on the slopes of Whistler there is reasonable covering.
“Locals tell me it is not a bumper start to the the season so far,” said PlanetSKI’s Katy Dartford as she arrived in the resort a couple of days ago.
“Its a sunny day and quite cold with 16cm of fresh snow in the forecast so fingers crossed.
“But the slopes are busy and the season is underway here in Whistler.”
Here at PlanetSKI we will be updating this article as the weather develops across North America.
