Inghams Targeted in Cyber Attack

Its parent company Hotelplan UK, that has other ski brands, has experienced what it calls ‘a cyber security incident’. It has no effect on people who have already booked a holiday. UPDATED

Last weekend Hotelplan UK began experiencing IT disruption across some of its key systems.

“Unfortunately, our initial investigations have confirmed that this disruption has been caused by a cyber security incident,” Inghams said in a statement.

“As a result, we have taken steps to isolate and shut down key systems.”

The Hotelplan UK group includes Explore Worldwide, Inghams, Inntravel, Esprit Ski and Santa’s Lapland.

It is taking the same precautions across all the brands.

“We are now working hard to restore our systems; and in parallel, we are conducting a thorough investigation to understand the precise scope and nature of the disruption.

“We are implementing workarounds to minimise the disruption to our customers, partners and suppliers, however, please note that you may experience some delays over the coming days.

“We are working hard to resume the level of service that you expect from us and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.”

Inghams has reassured customers saying that the incident has no effect on holidays and trips that are already booked.

“Again, we apologise for any inconvenience, but we take cyber security very seriously and resolving this incident remains our top priority,” Inghams added.

It comes as the government is warned that the UK at high risk of ‘catastrophic ransomware attack’.

A parliamentary committee says Britain is vulnerable because of poor planning and lack of investment

It warns that an attack could “bring the country to a standstill” because of poor planning and a lack of investment, a parliamentary committee has warned.

The joint committee on the national security strategy warned that the UK could face a crippling cyber-attack on its critical national infrastructure (CNI) at any moment.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) describes the CNI as national assets that are essential for the functioning of society, including energy supply, water supply, transportation, health and telecommunications.
