The latest accident happened in Colorado as a 67-year old snowboarder was caught. Snow levels are getting back on track in North America after a poor start to the season.

The victim has been named as Peter Harrelson,

He was a doctor and lived in Ophir in southwest Colorado.

He did not return on Monday and according to the Colorado Avalanche information Centre search and rescue teams found his body on Tuesday morning.

He was believed to be snowboarding on his own.

“On behalf of all of us at the Sheriff’s Office and our Search and Rescue team, I would like to express our condolences to the family and friends of this gentleman. I’d also like to thank our SAR team for their work in this inherently risky mission,” said San Miguel County Sheriff, Bill Masters.

Three other people died in separate avalanches in California, Idaho and Wyoming.

People across the ski states are being urged to be cautious and always have the correct safety equipment and know how to use it.

The fresh snow has been welcomed after a generally poor start to winter in both the USA and Canada.
