83% Would Cut Back to Fund Ski Trip

That’s the finding from Ski Tour Operator, Sunweb, who surveyed 2,000 skiers to discover what Brits would give up to ensure they can afford a ski trip.

Key findings:

  • 83% would cut back on something to fund a winter getaway
  • Meals out (42%) and takeaways (35%) are the most popular things people give up
  • Over a quarter (28%) would cut down seeing friends and family to save cash for a ski trip
  • 15% said they would cut back putting money into savings

Over two-fifths (42%) of respondents say they’d give up meals out to afford a holiday while takeaways (35%), gym memberships (21%) and weekends away (20%) are also high on the list of sacrificeable things.

Snowports enthusiasts will even go as far as to avoid spending time with family and friends.

Over a quarter (28%) reveal they’d socialise with loved ones less and 15% wouldn’t make the effort to travel and see them.

Spokesperson for Sunweb, Jack Bolus, said: “A ski holiday can definitely rack up the costs, and at a time of financial uncertainty, we’re not surprised to see people making cuts in order to prioritise affording a winter getaway – though not putting money into savings isn’t quite what we expected!

“To help holidaymakers afford – and make the most of – their trip from a financial point of a view, all packages booked through Sunweb include the cost of a ski lift pass as well as accommodation and flights – but please note, we won’t pay into your savings for you!”

All data relating to consumer research was carried out online by Research Without Barriers, with the survey conducted between 9th – 16th November 2023. The sample comprised 2,001 UK adults who have skied or are planning to go skiing.
