Powder in the Pyrenees

There has finally been some decent snowfalls across the ski resorts in the Pyrenees. Winter is late, but it has arrived. NEW

To say it has been a lean season for snow in the resorts of France, Andorra and Spain in the Pyrenees is a bit of an understatement.

Not only have runs been closed, but whole resorts have too.

There have been high temperatures and a lack of snowfall.

It has been one of the worst seasons in recent years.

Not any more, with some areas seeing over 1m of fresh snow.

In Andorra the main resorts in Grandvalira are planning to open all the slopes this weekend for the first time this season.

It is similar in Spain with Baqueira Beret and Formigal hoping to open all their terrain.

PlanetSKI visited the Pyrenees in January – first France and then Andorra.

We were lucky and were in the resorts after pretty much the only decent fall of winter.

However we had to cancel our planned trip to Spain as the snow was in sparse supply.

Do check back as we update this report over the weekend.
