Snow Clearing Continues at Passo Stelvio for Summer Skiing

The Italian resort of Passo Stelvio saw huge amounts of late season snow. It still plans to open this weekend, but it is not certain to do so.

It is hoped the access road will be cleared before its planned June 1st opening.

There is not only huge amounts of snow on the access road, but also the road needs to be repaired in places.

Already one hotel, the Pirovano Quarto, has said it will not be opening as planned on May 31st as there’s “too much snow.”

Instead it will open on June 7th.

There remains plenty of snow in the resort.

The continuing closure of the road has already led to a stage of the Giro d’Italia being cancelled.

Once all the snow is cleared at Passo Stelvio, and elsewhere, it is expected to be a good start to the summer ski season in the Alps.
