Summer Glacier Ski Areas in the Alps Close

Some were scheduled to do so while warm temperatures have affected others.

In France Val d’Isere and Les2Alps have now closed and Tignes is set to wind down its current summer operations this weekend.

Saas-Fee in Switzerland is open.

The Zermatt glacier remains open and it can be accessed from neighbouring Cervinia in Italy.

Passo Stelvio in Italy is also open.

In Austria Hintertux remains open.

The Austrian ski area has the largest ski area open in the northern hemisphere at present, with 20km of slopes on offer.

The summer skiing season in the Alps got off to a good start after heavy snow in the late season and spring in April and May.

It was followed by cold temperatures and further snowfall into June.

The temperature is set to warn up over coming days with the freezing level going to over 4,000m.
