24th July 2024
An announcement is about to be made in Paris ahead of the Summer Olympics. But the outcome is a near dead cert and will come as no great surprise. NEW
The 142nd International Olympic Committee Session is taking take place on 23rd-24th July at the Palais des Congres in Paris.
For the 2030 Games the French bid is the likely winner and is up against Stockholm-Åre in Sweden and a Switzerland bid which is a joint one by cities and cantons.
Salt Lake City in the USA is also bidding for the 2030 Games.
The US city is the only candidate for the 2034 Games.
The French Alps bid for the 2030 Winter Olympics is backed by the International Olympic Committee and is the most likely to win, as the IOC has already launched a targeted dialogue phase with France.
Usually there is last-minute suspense as the hosts are chosen with the announcement an edge of the seat affair for the delegations.
Not this time.
“The future host commission is confident that these two preferred hosts represent a great opportunity for successful and sustainable Olympic Winter Games,” said the head of the IOC’s future host commission, Karl Stoss, ahead of the Session.
In the USA detailed plans have already been made for the celebrations as Salt Lake City is awarded the 2034 Winter Games.
