The 2026 Winter Olympics are to be held in Milan-Cortina in Italy so Europe will host two consecutive Winter Games.

The awarding of the 2030 Games to France is dependent on financial guarantees from the government.

They have not yet be given due to the recent elections with no government yet sworn in.

President Macron has said that the guarantees will be forthcoming.

“I confirm the full commitment of the French nation, and assure you that I will ask the next prime minister to include not only this guarantee but also an Olympic law in the priorities of the new government,” he said.

“Seven years ago we made the same commitment (for Paris 2024), and we delivered. We will do the same.”

We will bring you further details and reaction across the day on PlanetSKI.

France has hosted the Winter Olympics three times:

  • Chamonix in 1924
  • Grenoble in 1968
  • Albertville in 1992

The 2034 Games will be held in Salt Lake City in Utah which last held the Winter Olympics in 2002.
