Skiing in the USA
14th August 2024

Want to know more about it? There is a special event in London on Friday 13th September to showcase all that is on offer.
“If you consider yourself a skier and take to the slopes across your life then you should visit the USA and Canada at some point,” says PlanetSKI editor, James Cove.
“It is a completely different experience to the Alps – neither better or worse just different, and all the better for it.
“There are many myths, like the snow being better, and it is not a budget option given the exchange rate and the cost of lift passes.
“And don’t get me on the generally poor quality of mountain restaurants.
“But if you want an altogether different experience then get yourself across the Pond asap.
“I have had some of my best ski times in the USA whether in the well-known resorts like Jackson Hole, Park City and Aspen.
“Then there are the lesser known ones like Arapahoe Basin, Powder Mountain and Alta.
“Or the unknown ones like Bogus Basin, Brundage Mountain and Schweitzer.”
James has visited dozens and dozens of resorts in the USA, usually on some of the now legendary PlanetSKI road trips.
Here is perhaps the first place to start if you are interested and intrigued: an event in London on Friday where you can find out more…
We will be at the event and reporting in-depth about what the USA offers.
Resorts in the USA are starting to announce their scheduled opening dates:

In Colorado Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone and Crested Butte have all released their proposed opening dates for the 2024-2025 season.
- Keystone: Mid-October
- Breckenridge: November 8th
- Vail: November 15th
- Beaver Creek and Crested Butte: November 27th
Jackson Hole in Wyoming has announced that next season will run from November 29th, 2024 to April 13, 2025, offering 137 days of skiing and snowboarding.
It has also launched its winter 2024-25 early bird lift ticket sale offering up to 15% on day tickets purchased before October 1st.
The resort continues to limit daily ticket sales and requires reservations for Ikon Pass and Mountain Collective pass holders.
“We will continue to manage capacity on the mountain by restricting the number of tickets sold per day,” said the resort CEO, Mary Kate Buckley.
“We initiated this practice in 2020 to improve the guest experience and offer more time on the slopes.
“Managing capacity has been extremely well received by our guests and employees.”
Here at PlanetSKI we are BIG fans of skiing in North America.
PlanetSKI’s Rob McAteer was in Alberta, Canada last winter:
And Park City, Utah, the season before:
Recently PlanetSKI editor, James Cove, was in California in May 2023 after record breaking amounts of snow.
Earlier James was in Park City, Utah, for an extended trip just before Covid hit in January 2020:
We will be back in the USA and Canada next winter for some long overdue visits, so do look out for those reports…
