GB’s Mia Brookes Takes Silver in First WC Event of 24/25 Season

The 17-year old came second in the Winter Games NZ FIS Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup. UPDATED

The finals at the event in Cardrona, New Zealand, were unable to be held on Sunday due to the weather conditions so the results were taken from the qualification round held on Saturday.

There were sustained windy conditions in the past few days followed by an overnight storm on Sunday that forced the closure of Cardrona chairlifts.

Mia Brookes is the current Snowboard Slopestyle World Champion, and she finished in second place with her technical and clean rail section impressing the judges.

The event was won by Kokomo Murase from Japan with the USA’s Rebecca Flynn finishing in third place.

“It was definitely challenging but it was a sick place to do it, one of my favourite resorts,” said Mia.

“To just put down a run on the day is a big achievement in yourself, so I am hyped that I put a run down.”

The event in Cardrona marked the start of the qualification period for the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics in 2026.

Mia Brookes is one the most promising athletes competing for Great Britain with high medal hopes for the 2026 Games.
