Bodies of Four Climbers Found on Mont Blanc

Two Italian and two South Korean climbers went missing at the weekend. Another climber has perished on Monte Rosa with four injured after the group was hit by an avalanche.

Rescuers found the bodies of the climbers near the summit of Mont Blanc and confirmed they had dies of hypothermia.

They were climbing on Saturday when weather conditions deteriorated.

Helicopters were unable to fly at the time due to the weather and it was deemed too dangerous to attempt a rescue on foot.

Their bodies have now been recovered.

The Italian climbers have been identified as Sara Stefanelli and Andrea Galimberti.

An investigation is underway.

There was another accident on Monte Rosa when an avalanche hit a group of eight climbers on the Italian side of the peak.

The Aosta Valley Alpine Rescue Service could only reach the group on foot as poor weather meant helicopters were unable to fly.

Initial reports say the climbers were descending at the time of the accident.

The injured are being treated in hospital in Aosta.

An investigation is underway.
