The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2027 will be held in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, from 1 to 14 February. There had been some doubt.
The original decision was made by the FIS Council in May 2022 but there were questions about the origin of the financial guarantees provided during the bidding process.
The Local Organizing Committee, the local municipalities, and Swiss-Ski have finally been able to comply with the bid requirements, according to a statement from the International Ski & Snowboard Federation.
“With the bid requirements complied, we can all focus on preparing another great edition of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships,” said the FIS President, Johan Eliasch.
FIS had claimed that Swiss Ski hadn’t secured the necessary financial backing to guarantee the running of the championships, thus exposing FIS to financial loss.
According to FIS these requirements were explicitly stated in the original documents and accepted by Swiss Ski.
There was a genuine possibility that FIS would have removed the Championships from Crans-Montana.
“It took us longer than expected to confirm a decision that should have been very clear, but now it is time to set the stage for a phenomenal Alpine ski celebration in 2027,” added the FIS Secretary General, Michel Vion
Crans-Montana will now host the Alpine championships for the second time, exactly 40 years since having hosted the 29th edition in 1987.
