Snowboard Alpine Season Kicks Off in China with New Venues

It’s the first time the snowboarders have been competing at elite level in China since the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022. NEW

The season starts at the end of November with an event at Mylin, followed by a competition at Yanqing.

The season will kick off with back-to-back double events in these new locations.

  • Mylin, Inner Mongolia, will host Parallel Giant Slalom (PGS) and Parallel Slalom (PSL) competitions from November 30 to December 1, 2024.
  • The action will then move to Yanqing the following week, with both PGS and PSL events scheduled for December 7-8, 2024.

There has been a successful site inspection by FIS Snowboard Race Director, Uwe Beier.

The inspection included preparation meetings at China’s new venues in Mylin and Yanqing, as well as a discussion with the Chinese Ski Federation in Beijing.

“Returning to China for the first time since the Olympics is incredibly exciting,” said Uwe Beier.

“The progress and enthusiasm for snowboarding in China have been remarkable, and I am thrilled to see these new venues take center stage in the World Cup season.”

The 2024/25 season will introduce snowboard enthusiasts to three new locations on the World Cup tour, with two of these venues in China.

Yanqing is an hour from Beijing and  gained international prominence as the host of the alpine skiing events during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

The venue also held bobsleigh, skeleton and luge events.

The slope in Yanqing offers an ideal pitch for snowboard alpine events and has extensive upgrades made for the Olympics, including lift connections and experienced staff.

Mylin, situated in Inner Mongolia, will make its debut on the World Cup circuit.

Known for hosting Asian Cup races, Mylin’s inclusion in the World Cup calendar marks a step in the development of winter sports in the region.

The venue has been praised for its early season slope conditions, which are expected to attract numerous teams looking to capitalise on the training opportunities before the season officially begins.

“With these new venues set to host the opening events of the season, the 2024/25 FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup is poised to deliver competitions and showcase China’s growing presence in the global snowboard community,” said FIS in a statement.
