Volunteers Needed for 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy

The recruitment of volunteers for the Milan-Cortina Games has begun. Around 18,000 “Team26” volunteers are required.

Volunteers will play a crucial role in the running of Milano Cortina 2026 across various competition venues and official sites

Roles available to volunteers may include:

  • Guiding fans and accredited participants,
  • Assisting sports delegations,
  • Accompanying athletes to competition venues and press events,
  • Supporting timekeeping activities,
  • Distributing equipment,
  • Contributing to medical support efforts.

People can apply through an online application process on the IOC  website, milanocortina2026.org.

The “Team26” volunteer programme is open to all Italian residents and foreign nationals who are willing to cover their own travel, visa and accommodation costs.

“Those selected for “Team26” will become part of a dynamic community, forging lifelong friendships with individuals from diverse cultures,” said a statement from the International Olympic Committee.

“They will also gain valuable skills applicable to both their personal and professional lives.

“Throughout the application and training phases, volunteers will follow a personalised path that aligns their goals, availability, and qualities with the event’s organisational requirements.”

Each volunteer will receive an official uniform and welcome kit, symbols of their essential role in the Games.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old by 1st November 2025, have proficiency in Italian or English, and be available to participate in selection and training events.

They should also commit to volunteering for at least nine non-consecutive days during the Olympic Winter Games, scheduled from 6-22 February, 2026, or the Paralympic Winter Games taking place from 6-15 March, 2026.

Additionally, volunteers can participate in readiness activities leading up to the Games, including test events in 2025.

“Volunteers have always been the distinguishing element of every edition of the Games,” said Milano Cortina 2026 President, Giovanni Malagò.

“With their passion and enthusiasm, they will convey the Italian spirit by welcoming people from all over the world and ensuring the best possible experience for the leading figures of the winter disciplines.”

Olympic champion Diana Bianchedi, now Chief Strategy Planning and Legacy Officer at Milano Cortina 2026, said “Without volunteers, no edition of the Games would be possible.

“First as an athlete and then as an executive, I have seen firsthand how crucial the contribution of volunteers is in creating that unique atmosphere that only the Olympic and Paralympic Games can convey.”
