Further Ski Areas Open in the Alps After More Snow
5th October 2024
Last modified on October 14th, 2024
As more resorts open more snow has been falling, though temperatures are now rising. It’s one of the best autumns for skiing in recent memory. UPDATED
The Moltaller glacier opened on Saturday, 12th October.
Heavy snow fell at altitude in the Alps earlier in October – up to half a metre in places.
The open glacier areas are in excellent conditions for the time of year with more opening.
Kauntertal in Austria opened last week.

Snow was not just falling in the open glacier areas in the central and east of the Alps.
Here’s the French resort of Val Thorens in the north-west Alps:
Resorts are also opening in Scandinavia as we have reported in this earlier PlanetSKI post:
Most of the snow has now melted, and it will make little difference to the approaching ski season with many resorts over two months until their opening.
However, it has certainly got many of us excited for the approaching winter season and in the mood for winter.
We have been reporting on ski areas opening in the past few weeks following the huge snow falls of September:
- Another ski area in Austria opens for autumn skiing
- Autumn ski season gets underway in the Alps
- Huge amounts of autumn snow falling in the Alps
- Austrian Alps hammered by huge autumn snowfall
- Heavy September snow hits the eastern Alps
- First ski resorts in the Alps open
Here at PlanetSKI we’ll keep you posted.
