First Major Resort in USA Opens on Tuesday

Wolf Creek in Colorado is the first resort to open a decent amount of terrain. It follows cold temperatures and some natural snowfall. NEW

The area of Ski Ward in Massachusetts opened a magic carpet lift on Saturday 19th October and claims to be the first resort in the USA to open.

There was just one beginner run from it.

On Tuesday 22nd October Wolf Creek will offer considerably more terrain than Ski Ward.

Wolf Creek Ski Area will have skiing and boarding seven days a week from Tuesday.

The Bonanza, Treasure, and Nova Lifts will be operating from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., giving access to roughly 30% of the mountain.

Machine-groomed trails include:

  • Tranquility,
  • Bonanza Crossover,
  • Navajo Trail,
  • Summer Day,
  • Divide Trail/Kelly Boyce,
  • Powder Puff Valley,
  • Thumper,
  • Charisma,
  • Bunny Hop,
  • Nova,
  • Susan’s.

It’s Wolf Creek’s 85th season and the resort will celebrate with a series of fun events and activities throughout the season that offer skiers and boarders a chance to win prizes and swag –  starting with Opening Day festivities.

It has been a mild autumn in the USA,  but things changed last week as the temperatures dropped and snow fell.

Other areas in Colorado are sharing images of the current snow conditions.

The two areas that usually battle it out to open first are Loveland and Arapahoe Basin.

Here at PlanetSKI we’ll be updating on Tuesday.

Do check back.
