PlanetSKI is in Portugal – Part 3

Portugal has no mountains worth talking about, receives little snow, has no famous skiers or any indoor slopes. And yet we are visiting. Why?

Over the summer on PlanetSKI we have been reporting on a few of our travels outside of the ski season and they have had, somewhat to our surprise, had many thousands of views, great feedback and growing interest.

It seems PlanetSKI readers are in interested in more than just our winter ski travels:

So, we’ve been back in Portugal, partly to write copious amounts of winter copy ahead of the season without any distractions, and also to re-charge the batteries ahead of the rapidly approaching winter season of 2024/25.

We have been to Portugal before in October for these reasons.

Now we are back and this time we thought we’d tell you a bit about PlanetSKI’s autumn hideaway – Lisbon.

See here for Part 1 of this rolling blog:

Update:

When we are travelling round the Alps going from resort to resort we prefer to take the train when we can.

Relaxing, environmentally friendly and comfortable.

You simply sit back in a comfortable seat and watch the scenery slip by.

Same in Portugal.

South from Lisbon to Lagos was a 4-hour affair with one change.

And the price?

€13.50 (£11.30) – slightly cheaper than Swiss Rail.

Lagos is a bustling tourist town, but sadly the poor weather had followed us from Lisbon.

We were staying nearby in Luz.

Again the rain was heavy, so like in the Alps we stayed indoors and I got on with some work writing endless features for the coming winter.

But 24-hours later at the standing in the same place:

It was like one of those blue sky powder days after a heavy alpine storm had cleared.

You can’t quite believe the past weather and revel in the present.

It felt like the middle of August on the Algarve, rather than the middle of October.

All too soon PlanetSKI’s Portugal adventures drew to a close.

Events in London beckoned: LISTEX, The London Snow Show and various meeting with destinations & tourist boards as plans are finalised for the  rapidly approaching ski season.

The batteries are refreshed, thousands upon thousands of words have been written for next season’s features and our travelling bug has been re-ignited in Portugal of all places.

Bring on the winter of 2024/25 – we’re ready!
