Where’s Best for Skiing at Easter?

It’s a question we’re often asked at PlanetSKI, especially this year when Easter falls so late. Where’s sunniest, where’s snowiest? We have some guidance for you from the ski tour operator, Sunweb. NEW
Sunweb has analysed the weather conditions in 37 of Europe’s top ski resorts over the past 17 years.
How much sun did they get and how much snowfall?
It could help you decide the best option for your April ski holiday.
The data was taken from snow-forecast.com, with snow reports from 2007-2024.
The results show that Val d’Isère in France has more bluebird days than any other resort in the first week of the Easter holidays with an average of 2.6.

And France dominates the top 10 for April bluebird days.
Saas-Fee in Switzerland has the highest snowfall, with an average of 41cm snowfall during the first week of the break.

The first week of the Easter holiday averages more bluebird days and higher snowfall than the second.
The research breaks down the resorts with the most bluebird days per week – defined as average snow, mostly sunny, light wind – and the resorts with the highest levels of snowfall as well.
The Easter holidays this year are from 7 to 21 April.
For families who have no choice but to travel during the school break, the first week of the holidays – so the second week of April – is optimal for the best conditions.
While Val d’Isère averages 2.6 days of bluebird conditions, Chamonix and Saas-Fee both have 2.4 days with La Plagne and Méribel 2.2 days.

With the town at 1,850m altitude, Val d’Isère also ranks 4th for snowfall in the second week of April with an average dump of 31cm across the week.
However, if it’s only snowfall you care about Saas-Fee tops the charts with 41cm in the second week of April.
Next best are the Italian resort of Breuil-Cervinia (39cm) and Austria’s Sölden (36cm) .
