New Online Guides for Train Travel to the French Alps

The guides are an extensive resource data base. Including everything from where to find toilets, to how to get the bus and if cash is needed. NEW
In February 2022 Montagne Verte launched the AlpinExpress Pass.
It is an initiative with a single focus – reduce the carbon emissions of ski holidays.
More than 250 have been snapped up so far this winter.
The organisation is an environmental non-profit and has now created some new train travel guides.
“We created these guides as lots of skiers are put off using the train because it seems more complicated,” said the President of Montagne Verte, Al Judge.
“People worry about anything from whether they’ll find a toilet to how to get from the station to the resort.
“These guides help with everything from crossing Paris or Lyon, to getting up to the resorts.”

The guides include photos to help you find your way, and information such as where to find toilets, what food options are available, and how to reserve buses to resort, or if cash is needed to pay for them.
The AlpinExpress Pass gives access to discounts on ski passes, accommodation, transfers, ski hire, ski and snowboard lessons, restaurants and other experiences across Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Gets and the Vallée d’Aulps.
The total savings mean that a train ticket is now not just a low carbon but also a cheaper way to travel to the Alps.
Between 50-75% of the emissions from a ski holiday come from travel to resort.
Choosing the train over a plane or private car is seen as the biggest single impact to reduce the impact of a trip.
The resort operators in Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets, and those across France have initiatives to reduce the impact of their operations:
- More efficient snow grooming
- Adjusting speeds of lifts in quieter times
- Installing solar panels on some lifts
Their total emissions are small compared to the overall emissions associated with a skier’s stay, with most of that coming from their travel.
