It was a slalom race and her favourite discipline.
Shiffrin was in 5th place after the opening run, but could not build on her position.
“It was a very important step in my recovery to see how I am stacking up with the top skiers in the world,” said Shiffrin to Eurosport after the race.
“It wasn’t an easy race. The track, the conditions were difficult.
“It felt challenging for me. I am so happy being back competing.”
The US superstar also outlined her plans for the upcoming World Championships: “I want to target the giant slalom and slalom,” she said.
“Everything depends on the next ten days and how it goes with training.
“I am catching up to the fastest in the world.
“I have a lot of work to do.”
Croatia’s Zrinka Ljutic won the race in Courchevel with Sara Hector from Sweden in second place and Germany’s Lena Duerr in third.
The US skier, whose 99 World Cup alpine ski victories are the most of any individual, has been out of action since she punctured her right abdomen in Vermont in the USA at the end of November.
“It’s been a little bit uncertain whether I could even return this season, but I’ve been able to get on snow, I’ve been able train a little bit the past week or so, and I’m actually going to be heading over to Europe in the next couple of days,” she said on the “TODAY” show this week.
“I have a stab wound, basically,” Shiffrin told NBC Olympics in December as she recalled her injury.
It has been a long awaited comeback and all eyes will be on how it has affected her and if she can takes that final victory for a staggering 100 wins.
