Tuesday October 1, 2019 - Email this article to a friend

The luxury chalet company Consensio has released its annual statistics giving an insight into the habits of skiers & snowboarders.

The data is compiled from the responses of 16 chalet operators and 18 ski and travel agents.

Most are at the high end but there are some mid-market companies.

The report focuses on France and Switzerland and looks at the situation in 2018-19 compared with the previous winter.

We've picked out just a few of the findings for you below.

  • The number of Asian visitors booking trips to Switzerland exceeded those from Russia and Australia.

  • The top three factors in booking a ski holiday remained the same as the previous season: 1 - resort, 2 - price, 3 - location (ski-in-out, near lifts etc).
  • Half the operators and agents said the Brexit leave vote had had a negative impact on their business last season, 44% said it had had no impact and 3% said it had had a disastrous impact.
  • Val d'Isere continues to be the most popular resort in France.
  • Verbier has regained its place as the most popular resort in Switzerland, overtaking Zermatt, though both decreased in popularity over the previous season.
