It is stressing its Covid-19 precautions, the attractions of its snow and mountain regions plus the additional extras offered by a ski holiday in the Austrian Alps. It is all part of a multi-million euro marketing campaign, ‘Winter Love’. UPDATED
“People are eager to travel and take a winter holiday and if you want snow in winter then Austria is the place to be…. the urge to travel is unbroken,” said the CEO of Austrian National Tourist Office, Lisa Weddig.
“There is an incredible diversity in Austria with skiing and snowboarding on its steep peaks and glaciers, and then snowshoeing and Xmas markets at lower levels.
“Skiing and snowboarding are the leading winter activities, but it is not all about sport it is about relaxing and enjoying yourself.”
She was speaking to journalists from around the world in a virtual news conference.
The UK contingent was at the Shard in London.
The campaign goes under the slogan of “Winter Love” and is the biggest marketing promotion undertaken by the Austrian National Tourist Office, ANTO.
It is spending €10m to promote itself across 13 international markets including the UK.
Austria is the second most popular destination for British skiers after France.
In Austria British skiers are the fourth biggest market after Germany, Holland and Switzerland.
The Winter Love Campaign will be seen on TV, in cinemas, magazines, online and on social media.
Winter Love is…
…the pale morning sun, the slope still untouched, the heartbeat before tearing downhill.
Remember the last time you stood on a summit early in the morning? The entire day before you: the exhilaration when skiing down perfectly prepared pistes, the fluffy Kaiserschmarren at the mountain hut, the children’s laughter during their snowball fight. You take off.
…giant evergreens covered in snow, deep, crunchy footsteps between them, the twinkling lights of the village.
Remember your last winter walk? The winter sun is tickling your nose, the snow is still untouched, your cheeks are tingling with the cold. You watch a snowflake float to the ground silently. You start to walk.
…a crackling fire, tired feet in woollen socks, a cup of steaming tea in both hands.
Remember that winter evening? The landlady at your favourite restaurant immediately recognises you, you laugh together, the tea warms your hands. A good day.
Feel the winter love. In Austria.

The key aspect in the post pandemic world is guaranteeing the health and safety of guests.
“We will make sure our guests enjoy a safe winter with 3G rules. This means there are hardly any restrictions for those fully vaccinated or recovered.”
Here on PlanetSKI we have written a full piece on the 3G Rules outlining in plain English what they are with masks required in cable cars:
At PlanetSKI we hope to be skiing in the Tirol next month – staying in Innsbruck and skiing some of the glacier resorts surrounding the city.
There has already been some excellent autumn snow on the glaciers.
“We are looking forward to a successful season and we look forward to welcoming all our guests,” said Lisa Weddig as she finished her presentation.
And with that it was time for us UK ski journalists to look out of the window.
And dream of the Austrian Alps:
