The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team was called up the UK’s highest mountain to bring back a dog that refused to move. NEW
Maggie, a 35kg Turkish Akbash dog, had sore paws and refused to go further when the walkers she was with began their trek back down the hill.
The people with her attempted to carry her but had to admit defeat.
“Maggie, a 35kg Akbash dog came into difficulty with sore paws high on the Ben path and was unable to move,” said a Facebook post from the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team.
“ A stretcher party, complete with a casualty carer and chicken stick treats, were dispatched to assist.
“Once Maggie was secured into the stretcher she was able to be transported down the hill for a well earned rest.”
The team would not normally go out for an animal but an exception was made in this case.
The Lochaber team had been called out four times that day – to assist someone with a head injury, another with an ankle injury and two cases related to the hot conditions.
The team finished their shift after the five-hour rescue at 01:00.
