Park City, Utah: One of the Great US Ski Towns

It is a favourite of ours at PlanetSKI. It gives access to some of the best ski resorts in Utah and has an atmosphere all of its own. We look back at some of PlanetSKI’s past visits.
Park City is under an hour from Salt Lake City International Airport that has direct flights from the UK.
After a transatlantic flight the short transfer to resort is a treat.
The box of ‘easy access’ is ticked.
What about box of ‘skiing and snowboarding’?
It has Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley that on its doorstep.
Just a short drive away are numerous others of the legendary Utah resorts – Alta and Snowbird in the Little Cotton Wood Canyon.
Even closer is Brighton and Solitude.
They can be skied on the so-called Interconnect Tour:
The resorts of Deer Valley, Alta, Snowbird, Solitude Brighton and Snowbasin are all on the IKON pass, so one lift pass can cover you for all those resorts.
Then there is a real gem.
Step forward Sundance that was founded by the Hollywood legend, Robert Redford.
Slightly further to the north are Snowbasin and Powder Mountain, near the town of Ogden.
They are well-worth a visit if you have the time with some stunning views:
Utah is more like a European ski area with many resorts in close proximity, rather than standing in isolation like some other North American ski areas.
Then there is the town itself.
It is an old mining town and history is everywhere.
In the town:
And up on the slopes:
It ouzes character, US charm and is like no other US ski town we have visited.
We last visited in January 2020 ahead of the Covid-19 pandemic.
There is a host of alternative mountain activities, from snow shoe walking to Olympic bobsleigh:
And the activities on offer in the town itself include gin-making.
An experience not to be missed:
The town has been at the forefront of sustainability as we reported earlier:
There is a host of new offerings for this winter and we will be updating this article shortly wih the full details so do check back.
If you are tempted by a trip to the USA this coming winter then staying in Park City is perhaps worth further investigation.
