Repairs to Cairngorm Funicular Near Completion

Highlands and Islands Enterprise, owners of Cairngorm ski resort in Scotland, have said that the repairs to the funicular are on schedule and the funicular will reopen this winter.
The lift has been out of action since 2018 and after it was deemed unsafe.
Work has taken place since November s to strengthen the 2km viaduct and is due to be completed this autumn.
A new funicular control system is currently being installed.
There will then be testing and certification before skiers and snowboarders can use it again.

The funicular opened in 2001 but was taken out of service in 2018 after an engineers’ inspection identified structural defects that raised safety concerns.
More detailed inspection and design work followed before the decision to reinstate the funicular was announced by the Scottish Government.
It is part of a £20.5m business case that includes other priority investments to strengthen Cairngorm Mountain’s year-round appeal.
“We’re on schedule to have the funicular back in service for snowsports enthusiasts and other visitors to Cairngorm during the coming winter season,” said a statement from Highlands and Islands Enterprise
“The exact timing depends on a range of factors, not least the mountain weather.”
