British Skier Dies in Meribel

An investigation is underway after a 50-year old man died in a fall while skiing in the French resort. There have been several other fatal accidents as the busy half-term period begins. UPDATED
The man was on holiday when he fell outside of the marked ski area.
The rescue services were called in and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The accident happened in the Saulire sector of the resort.
A police investigation is now underway and is looking at the speed he was travelling.
Eyewitnesses have told French media he was skiing at high speed and took off into the air and landed heavily.
He suffered a cardiac arrest and multiple injures.
No further details are currently available, and we will update you when we hear more.
Some events in The Alpine Ski World Championships are currently taking place in the resort.
There were two other fatal accidents last weekend in the French Alps:
A 21-year-old American died off piste in the Brevant area of Chamonix after falling 200m.
He fell under the Cornu chairlift as it is reported he was not wearing a helmet at the time.
A 59-year old skier died while ski touring near Chamonix.
He has been named as Olivier Chamel and was the operations manager of the Aiguille di Midi sector in Chamonix.
The Chamonix mountain rescue were called out eight times on Sunday and the authorities have reiterated their calls for caution.
