16 Britons Injured in Alps Crash

Six children are among those hurt in a collision between a minibus and a four-wheel drive vehicle near Albertville in France. Two adults are in a serious condition.

The two vehicles are reported to have crashed almost head on near the town of Albertville in the Savoie region on Sunday.

According to a report in The Times newspaper, the 4×4 was carrying a family of five, including two children, from Geneva Airport to Peisey-Vallandry in the Les Arcs ski area.

The minibus was transporting 11 people, including four children, from Courchevel to Geneva Airport.

The report says it was being driven by a British citizen living in the French Alps.

30 firefighters and two helicopters attended and the injured were taken to hospitals in Albertville, Chambéry, and Grenoble.

Local police said one of the vehicles had left its side of the road but it was not clear which one.

Tests showed that neither driver had taken drugs or alcohol.

An investigation is underway.

The collision happened on one of the busiest weekends of the season.

Sunday was the last day of the main British half-term week and the middle of the French school holidays.

It was also the last day of the Alpine World Championships held in the two resorts of Courchevel and Méribel.
