Sit-Ski World Record Attempt

A group of skiers with a disability are aiming to claim the world record for the furthest skied using seated equipment. NEW

They are making the attempt at the Chill Factore indoor snow centre in Manchester on Monday 25th September.

They are raising funds for Disability Snowsport UK, DSUK.

Supported by Berghaus a team of 8 will be attempting to create the world record for the greatest distance skied by a team of seated skiers in 8 hours.

The target is to ski further than 44 Km in 8 hours which equates to the team skiing the Chill Factor^e slope 38 times per hour on average.

The team of 8 is attempting the World Record attempt in support of Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK) the money raised will go towards enabling people who have all types of disabilities to have the opportunity to take part in snowsports at adaptive snowsport schools across the UK.

The team includes:

Alex Macpherson, 17, who was born with severe quadriplegic cerebral palsy and also has learning difficulties;
Amber Meikle-Janney, 24, who was born with hereditary spastic paraplegia (a rare neurological condition which mainly affects the lower limbs and core strength) and
Will Macpherson, 34, who suffered a spinal cord injury following a bicycle accident in 2004.

“We are aiming to raise a minimum of £3,000 from the world record attempt,” said the CEO of DSUK, Virginia Anderson.

“All donations will go directly towards enabling people with all types of disabilities to take part in skiing and snowboarding at adaptive snowsport schools throughout the UK.

“We exist to help people like Alex, Amber and Will and through their efforts, we are certain they will inspire others to have a go too.

“By taking on this incredible challenge, the team are going a long way in helping us as a small charity to share the enjoyment of snowsports with many more disabled children and adults across the county.”
