The US skier will concentrate on slalom, giant slalom and super-G next winter. It follows an injury in the downhill last season.
Shiffrin injured herself in a high-speed downhill crash in Cortina in Italy last winter and it put her out of action for several weeks.
She sprained her MCL and tibiofibular ligament in her left knee.
With 97 wins to her name it seems she want to concentrate on her strengths, and races that carry less risk of injury.
97 is close to the 100 milestone that was long thought to be unreachable.
In March 2023 she overtook the long-held record of 87 wins that had been held by the Swedish legend, Ingemar Stenmark, since 1989.
“No downhill, not this season. I would love to bring it back, but we’ll see how it goes,” Shiffrin said.
“No downhill, not this season.”
Catching up with @MikaelaShiffrin two weeks before the #FISAlpine season, in which she aims for career win No. 💯 — “I don’t personally care about winning 100, but I do think it’s a monumental moment in the sport.” ⬇️https://t.co/9mjNYPdLfB
