We are updating this live report with reaction so do check back.

Shiffrin has won 35.3% of races she has contested.

She has won 53 slalom races, 20 GS, five super-G, three downhill, one Alpine combined and five parallel World Cup wins.

In 2019 Shiffrin became the first skier to win the World Cup season titles in the slalom, giant slalom and super-G, as well as taking the overall Crystal Globe.

Are in Sweden is where a 17-year-old Shiffrin first won a World Cup race, in the slalom in December 2012.

She equaled the record of 86 victories on Friday as she won the giant slalom.

Last January she broke the number of wins held by a female skier as she overtook her fellow American Lynsey Vonn’s tally:

It was only a matter of time before she would surpass the total of wins by Ingermar Stenmark.

It has now come.

Stenmark was not in Are, but watched the race on television.

He gave Shiffrin an enthusiastic endorsement in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

“She’s much better than I was. You cannot compare,” said Stenmark.

Mikaela Shiffrin was born in Vail in Colorado on March 13th 1995, and is a two-time Olympic gold medalist.

She is a five-time Overall World Cup champion, a four-time world champion in slalom and a seven-time winner of the World Cup discipline title in that event.

She is the youngest slalom champion in Olympic alpine skiing history, at 18 years and 345 days.

PlanetSKI first heard about Mikalea Shiffrin when she was a 16-year old racer trying to make her name back in 2012.

At the time she was  the youngest US skier to have stood on a World Cup Podium for 30 years.

She was interviewed by PlanetSKI Editor, James Cove, in Obergurgl in Austria back in the 2012/13 season for a series we were running at the time ‘Chairlift Chats’ as James spotted her potential.

So, where from here for the greatest ski racer of all time?

She celebrates her 28th birthday this Monday so has plenty of time left to increase her tally of wins, as long as she avoids serious injury.

Most ski racers are able to compete at the highest level well into their 30s.

Few would bet against her reaching 100 World Cup victories.
