British Woman Dies & British Man Injured After Ski Collision

The accident happened on a black run in Les Arcs in France after the 62-year old woman lost control and hit the stationary man. NEW
The pair were on the the Aiguille Rouge at the top of the ski area above Arc 2000.
She was coming down the black slope that was reported by the authorities to be ‘well groomed’.
The 62-year-old had lost control of her skis before colliding with a 35-year-old man who was stationary on the piste.
Emergency services attended the scene swiftly, but she died shortly afterwards after loosing consciousness.
The man suffered a broken leg.
Neither people has been named by the authorities.
It is reported that both were wearing a ski helmet.
“Despite the rapid intervention of the ski rescuers, assisted by the Courchevel CRS teams and the emergency doctor, the English victim could not be resuscitated,” said a statement from Les Arcs.
“The stationary skier, aged 35, was taken to the Arc 2000 medical centre with a fractured tibia-fibula.”
A spokesperson for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in France and are in contact with the local authorities.”
A post mortem is to be carried out and an investigation has been launched by French prosecutors.
A 14-year old boy died in an avalanche off piste in the same area of Les Arcs on Xmas Day.
Recently five people died in two separate avalanches in France and Italy.
