It has been closed for renovations for the past three months.

A 600-metre stretch of the 11-kilometre tunnel was completely reconstructed.

It links Chamonix in southeast France with Courmayer in northwest Italy.

We reported on the renovation works earlier on PlanetSKI:

150 people worked on shifts 24-hours a day and put in more than 150,000 hours of work.

The Frejus Tunnel, the Grand-Saint-Bernard Tunnel and various mountain passes were used as alternative routes.

It is the world’s second deepest tunnel after the Gotthard Base Tunnel in Switzerland.

It is 2,480m beneath the Aiguille du Midi summit.
