GOT YOUR GEAR?

Decathlon expands; the affordable sports equipment & clothing retailer is embracing snowsports. More shops & more gear.

Decathlon was founded in 1976 in Lille, France.

In launched in the UK in 1999, so it’s been around for a fair amount of time offering more affordable sports gear and equipment.

There are now 36 stores nationwide.

It’s also present in 30 countries around the world.

Experts are always in store to help customers get the best and the warehouse-sized shops really are a trove for sports lovers.

PlanetSKI recently visited a London branch at Surrey Quays to look at the kit and talk to the snowpsorts staff on hand:

See below as our editor, James Cove, gathered some first impressions:

Check of more videos lower down this article as we look and skis & boards and then the boot range.

THE DECATHLON MISSION:

“To make sport accessible to as many as possible, no matter the level.

A healthy lifestyle is of the utmost improtance: Being active and discovering new things and sports is an important part of it.

Decathlon is here to help make this possible.”

The Wed’ze brand

Decathlon has its own line of ski, snowboard and sledging clothing and equipment to rival the popular big name brands and big name stores – Wed’ze.

It comes at a more affordable price.

Ranges include downhill skiing, freeride and freestyle on the snowsports front with the philosophy to ‘introduce the joy of snow sports to everyone’.

See here as James speaks to Anna Popovici, a Decathlon Sports Advisor, about the skis and snowboards.

And here is a look at the ski and snowboard boots:

And for the record the snowboarding boots are £69.99. Wink

Wed’ze’s design centre is located in the heart of the Mont Blanc valley of the French Alps.

Close contact to the mountains, skiers and resorts means the designers and engineers are expert and well in the know.

See here for a further glimpse at the gear:

PlanetSKI will be testing Wed’ze skis and boots later this season.

As you may have seen elsewhere on PlanetSKI we have just arrived in Ischgl in the Tirol in Austria and will be testing its goggles.

Later in the season we will have a full test of some of the women’s skiing clothing – watch this space…
