Snowmen in St Anton for World Cup Racing

The public is not allowed to gather to watch the races but that doesn’t mean there can’t be a crowd. A crowd of snowmen and snowwomen. By the course, in the grandstand area and around town.

Around 100 snowmen and snowwomen have appeared in and around the Karl Schranz destination stadium and in town for the FIS World Cup racing this weekend.

There’s women’s Downhill and Super-G in the resort in the Tirol.

Apart from putting a huge smile on people’s faces in these grim times, it is also raising money for an African charity – ‘Snowmen for Africa’.

Money raised by donations or sponsoring a snowman will be invested in sustainable water projects in Africa.

“Wonderful idea to revive the grandstand for next weekend’s Arlberg Kandahar races with snowwomen and snowmen, lucrative donations for Africa and, above all, create something together and by far. It was fun!” said one of PlanetSKI’s great friends in the resort, Wilma Himmelfreundpointner.

Wilma, along with other villagers form St Anton,  helped decorate some of the snowmen and snowwomen.

And here is the, er, snowmen’s eye view of the finish area.

And this is the action they are anticipating:

It seems PlanetSKI readers approve of the idea judging by the comments on the PlanetSKI Facebook page:.

Brenda Miles –  You know how much I love snowmen! Aren’t these fantastic? xx

Helen Jackson – Brilliant

Vanessa Fisher – Love this

Aileen Eglington – That is fantastic!

Harriet Green – that’s lovely!

Rai Mundl – I couldnt concentrate looking at that. I’d be laughing my a$$ off
“& The crowd goes crazy!!!”

Here at PlanetSKI we’ll be watching the action over the weekend.

But without quite such a good view as the snowmen.
