95-year-old Goes Heliskiing

The are claims that Junior Bounous from Utah is the oldest person in the world to have gone heliskiing. He took to the skies and slopes of Snowbird this week.

Earlier we reported on a 15-year old snowboarder who has broken an 11-year record held by Shaun White.

Now we report from the other end of the age spectrum.

Junior Bounous from Utah skied four runs in the Wasatch Mountains near Snowbird.

He was with his son Steve Bounous, daughter-in-law Suzanne Bounous and granddaughters Ajya and Tyndall Bounous along with other friends.

It was his 60th day skiing in the 2020-21 season.

“It was beyond belief to have a day like this,” he said to local media.

“I stand here and I feel so sentimental that it’s almost hard to talk about. It was such a special day that was never anticipated or expected.”

Junior Bounous worked at Snowbird as its first mountain school director and then director of skiing.

He was born on August 24th 1925 in Provo, Utah and is “considered one of the legends of American skiing,” according to Snowbird officials.

Some are claiming it as a world record for the oldest person to heliski.

All we know at PlanetSKI is that age is no barrier to snowsports.
