Snow & Arctic Cold in Scotland

The ski areas of Scotland could be set for an early Christmas present with a prolonged Arctic blast hitting the Highlands over the next few days. UPDATED

The snow has begun falling and, while it’s too early to get excited about the prospect of skiing and snowboarding in Scotland this winter, it’s great news following a wet and mild November.

The UK’s Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in the Highlands and other parts of northern Scotland on Wednesday and Thursday.

Snow showers are expected to continue throughout the day and night into the morning of Thursday 8th December.

There could be 10cm above 200 metres.

“There will be widespread frosts with temperatures falling to as low as -10°C overnight in isolated spots by the end of the week,” Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Rebekah Sherwin, said.

“More severe weather warnings could be needed as we head through the week.”

Forecasters say the cold spell looks set to last well into next week.
