Where’s the Cheapest Beer in the Mountains?

Crystal Ski Holidays has highlighted the cheapest ski resorts to enjoy a pint, so skiers and snowboarders don’t have to break the bank in order to enjoy a refreshing beer after a day on the slopes.

After gathering the prices from its destination teams, the UK’s leading ski operator has found that the cheapest destination for a pint is in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Skiers can enjoy a pint for as little as £0.95 in the resorts of Bjelašnica and Jahorina.

This was followed by Bulgaria (£2.90 per pint), with the USA coming third place (£3.30).

What’s more, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bulgaria’s ski resorts offer brilliant value and the affordable drinks – and restaurants – make them a popular choice for those who want to make their budget go further.

Breckenridge in the USA is home to a vast ski area, where skiers have the choice of five separate mountains, so a cold local beer after a long day on the slopes is the perfect antidote.

The USA was closely followed by Andorra, where the average pint costs £3.50.

The resort of Soldeu is rated as one of the best places in Europe to learn how to ski, and home to a handful of bars where travellers can enjoy live music, coupled with a fresh pint.

The average cost of a pint in ski resorts:

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina – £0.95 for a pint
  • Bulgaria – £2.90 for a pint
  • USA – £3.30 for a pint
  • Andorra – £3.50 for a pint

Popular European destinations in Italy, Austria, Finland and France are the next most affordable places for a beer.

The average pint costs the equivalent to what beer drinkers can expect to pay in the UK.

Not only are the resorts here renowned for their world-class pistes, but also for the varying selection of après-ski activities on offer; from steins of beer in Austria, to the lively après ski parties in France.

Sauze d’Oulx in Italy offers the best value for a beer, coming in below the average Italian resort price at £3.95.

For those happy to trave further afield, look no further than resorts in Canada and the USA, as well as the brand-new destination, Niseko Village in Japan.

Niseko is one of the country’s top ski spots, especially for varied terrain and fresh powder and after hitting the slopes, skiers can enjoy a beer in resort, which are unsurprisingly on the more expensive end of the scale at £7.95 per pint.

However, it might mean that travellers may then have the courage to try out a favourite Japanese pastime, karaoke.
